這是一封信,前陣子寫給我舅舅的一封信,一來覺得內容還不差,二來難得有英文字多過中文字的作品,故波此文。
Dear Uncle,
Sorry that i'm too busy to mail to u, though i have my idea about the world(between East and West). There is a hit called "the world is flat"(http://www.books.com.tw/exep/prod/booksfile.php?item=0010314685), the author remind American of the threat of Indian and Chinese, because the former are good at software and the latter are good at hardware. The author said that they will 搶美國人飯碗.
But i don't agree the thought totally.
How the world can be flat? or we can ask "how the world can be fair?" In our traditional world of view, our education, we are taught "West is great", as u said, many ideas or theories are developed from west, and we always accept, believe, and obey the rule "made in west."
It's kinda sad, but it absolutely doesn't mean that we have nothing.
Take psychology for example,魏晉南北朝竹林七賢的清談、南宋朱熹&王陽明的理學,even 孔孟的儒家思想,印度的佛學, these are psychology! Especially 理學, it has a systematic thought, but why they are not the main flow of psychology? a great part of the reason is that Chinese don't treat them as treature but 腐敗的傳統!But we can't all blame 自己人, before discussing this topic, we have to put our sight into the background- the historical process Chinese went through.
Western imperialism exists here and there, from culture, fashion, politics, academy......, it seems we are dominated by west. I hate this situation, but i know i can't change it (just resisting something unfair by myself)
But i'm also affected:P So i still accepted many west things as i learned. It's not bad,in fact, when i need to explain something to others, west things are useful tools(we have the same "foudation", and i can ease the possibility of argue...oh!now i know why i always bicker with Mom!) . People said that "Knowldge is power", i must have enough power to live in this world:P But i won't agree "everything", this is my attitude of life now.
Hey, i'm not "edcating" u, just telling u what i think...World is alive, who knows 風水會怎麼轉? Things will not always stay at only one point, so, what is traditional? what is modern? there is no absolute answer. We can think too much and think less, we can accept and refuse, everything is just relativistic.
Cheers,
juneine
