The film talks a true story of Ian Curtis, the vocal of the band Joy Division, in a way of mourning of Ian's death. A b/w(黑白電影) way.
Although the film is called "Control", it obviously shows a process to "Out of control" in fact.
Under my description, it's easily supposed a sad film or to make the audience a bit down. However, I didn't think so after seeing this film over. In my view, the film offers a start point to approach this gorgeous but short-lived band, Joy Division, and also to approach the band New Order, which is the new version of Joy Division after Ian's death and lasting to present.
Because not much shock is conveyed.
Especially when you have already got a clear enough plot about Ian's story, you yearned for more details in this film, for example, something about feeling. It's a very vital element to feel how a person is getting into complete destruction. The film making team have the greater chance to interview with Ian's wife, daughter, and band members than ordinary men, but the product is just a flat kind of story-telling.
I believe that there existed an overwhelming pressure in Ian's world, which led to a tragic suicide. The film doesn't let the audience taste "the overwhelming shock", and it consequently misleads some people think Ian is nothing but a "strawberry" with poor anti-pressure ability.
It's not totally fair. I'm not defending the challenge to Ian, instead, i want to say that nobody really have the right to judge others' ability to cope with the pressure they encounter. My reason is, you always don't know to what degree one's original ability can afford, and you always don't know to what damage scale the pressure will cause as well.
We could be in one's shoes, but we couldn't be other one. "If I were you..." is hence not a useful phrase.
Is Control a recommended movie? If you ask my opinion, I will say "yes, not bad". It will be a educational film to know a famous band raising in late 70s. In this movie, some Joy Division's great songs are chosen as background, I felt a bit Ian's pain more from his vioce. However, his vioce(plus the band's music) is really terrific. The upset feeling is what I tried to escape in my life. Thank God I don't feel consistent with that kind of soul.
Even I wanna say I know how he felt somehow.
I had my experience of getting out of control. But I sought the compromise with the reality. People are finging the order through whole their lives. My choice is to keep alive.
